Bandits' Olszewski headed to Denver

Press Release

Te St. Louis Bandits have announced that forward Dan Olszewski has committed to the University of Denver (WCHA) for next season.

Olszewski, a 20-year-old from Janesville, Wis., leads the Bandits in scoring with 30 points on 13 goals through 32 games. He’s also a plus-13.

“As an organization, we’re extremely excited to see Ozzie attend a school as prestigious as Denver,” said Bandits owner Kelly Chase. “Not only will he get to play hockey at a high level, but he’ll also get a fantastic education.

“Denver is also very serious about moving its players to the next level, and that’s always been a motivating factor for the Bandits.”

Olszewski was a member of the Bandits’ Robertson Cup championship team last season, scoring seven goals for 13 points in 38 regular-season games and four points (three goals) in eight postseason contests.

“Ozzie was a presence for us last season, and this year he’s a go-to guy who we can always look to for leadership or a big goal,” said Bandits head coach Jeff Brown. “He’s a pleasure to coach and certainly deserves the opportunity he’s getting at Denver.”

Olszewski is the fifth player from this year’s Bandits team to commit to a Division I program, including goaltender Garrett Bartus, who left the club at the holiday break to join the University of Connecticut (Atlantic Hockey).

“Ozzie has been one of my most favorite players to coach,” added Bandits assistant coach Rocky Russo. “He has great character and his work ethic is unmatched.

“We’ll certainly miss him next year, but I couldn’t be happier to see him get the chance to play at a school like Denver.”
