Tyler Seguin Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 24 for scoring 11 points in three games including five goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.

In addition to the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game where he served as Captain for Team Orr, Seguin was busy on the ice producing three multi-point games in three wins for the Whalers. His week began on Monday with two goals and an assist in a 7-4 win over division rivals the Windsor Spitfires. He scored two goals and two assists for four points as first star of a 5-1 win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors on Friday night, and then repeated as first star with four points again on Saturday with a goal and three assists in the 4-2 win over the Peterborough Petes.

Seguin, a 17-year-old from Brampton, ON, leads the OHL in scoring as a sophomore with 34 goals and 45 assists for 79 points in 44 games. Eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Seguin is the second ranked North American Skater by NHL Central Scouting.

Also considered for the award this week is Scott Glennie of the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings who collected seven points in three games scoring two goals and five assists. Matthew Brenton of the QMJHL’s Montreal Juniors scored six points in two games with three goals and three assists.
