Brenton and Savard win TELUS Player of the Week Awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 25, 2010 – Montreal Juniors forward Matthew Brenton and Moncton Wildcats defenseman David Savard today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 18 to 24.

Brenton scored three goals, including a game-winner, and added three helpers in victories over the Foreurs and the Sea Dogs. Moreover, he posted a +5 rating. Brenton enjoyed his best game of the week on Saturday versus the Sea Dogs, registering three points in a 6-4 win. He was named the game’s first star. The Juniors have won seven of their last ten games.

Pierre-Alexandre Vandall (Cataractes), Mike Hoffman (Sea Dogs) and Simon Olsson (Drakkar) were also considered.

On defence, David Savard gets the nod. The Wildcats’ defenseman continues to impress. He collected two goals and three assists in three Moncton victories. Furthermore, he helped his team limit the high-powered offences of the Tigres, the Voltigeurs and the Remparts to a combined seven goals. Finally, he posted a +4 rating. The Wildcats are in the midst of a ten-game winning streak.

Charles-Olivier Roussel (Cataractes), Adrien Lemay (MAINEiacs) and François Lacerte (Titan) were also considered.
