USHL Honors - Week 15

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the 15th week of the 2009-10 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward Brock Montpetit of the Waterloo Black Hawks, named Reebok Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman David Makowski of the Green Bay Gamblers, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Steven Bolton of the Tri-City Storm who earned honors as the USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Montpetit scored nine points (4g, 5a) and registered a plus-six rating as the Black Hawks won three games in three nights. He dished out two assists in the 3-0 win over Team USA on Friday. The 19-year-old then recorded a season high four points (3g, 1a) and completed a hat trick by scoring a goal in all three periods of the 8-3 win vs. Chicago on Saturday. The native of Somerset, Wisconsin completed the weekend registering a point on all three goals (1g, 2a) in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Chicago. The third-year USHL forward is riding a six-game point streak (6g, 7a) and currently leads Waterloo with 42 points (19g, 23a) in 30 games which also ranks fifth overall in the League.

Makowski recorded a goal in each of the Gamblers’ two weekend victories, extending the team’s win streak to eight games. He capped the scoring with a shorthanded tally in the 3-1 win over Team USA on Friday. The 20-year-old from Wildwood, Missouri then scored the game-winning goal in the 6-1 victory over Team USA on Saturday. The defenseman has scored a goal in three straight games, two of which have been game-winners. It is the third weekly USHL honor this season for Makowski who ranks second among League defenseman in scoring with 26 points (13g, 13a) in 29 games.

Bolton posted a 1.50 goals-against-average, .950 save percentage, and one shutout as he earned back-to-back victories for the Storm. Just two days after his 20th birthday, he celebrated by stopping all 34 shots he faced in the 1-0 victory vs. Cedar Rapids on Friday. It was the first USHL shutout for the native of Las Vegas, Nevada. He then made 23 saves to help Tri-City claim a key 4-3 road victory over division-rival Sioux Falls on Saturday. Bolton has registered a 5-3-0 record with a 2.56 GAA and .913 save percentage in 10 appearances for the Storm this season.
