Chouinard and Delmas win TELUS Player of the Week Awards

Press Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 18, 2010 – Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Joël Chouinard and Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Peter Delmas today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 11 to 17.

Chouinard earns some hardware for a second consecutive week after having captured the TELUS defensive player of the week award last Monday. He is also the second defenseman this season to get the nod on offence (Charles-Olivier Roussel). Chouinard was recognized for scoring five goals, including a game-winner, and adding four assists in four Victoriaville victories. Moreover, he registered a +8 rating. Finally, he has points in each of his last nine games, the longest active streak amongst defensemen.
Samson Mahbod (Rocket), Michael Kirkpatrick (Sea Dogs) and Nicolas Philip-Michaël Devos (Tigres) were also considered.

On the defensive end, Peter Delmas is the award-winner. Delmas had a terrific week, posting victories over the red-hot Drummondville Voltigeurs and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. He maintained a 1.00 goals-against-average and .964 save percentage during that span as he faced an average of 28 shots per game.

David Savard (Wildcats), Nathan Beaulieu (Sea Dogs) and Kevin Poulin (Tigres) were also considered.
