Paul Kelly, trio of NHL greats to headline All-Star Banquet

Press Release

Former National Hockey League Players’ Association executive director Paul Kelly will be the keynote speaker at the British Columbia Hockey League’s 2010 All-Star Game Banquet on Tuesday, January 12th in Nanaimo, the league and the Nanaimo Clippers have announced. Kelly was recently hired to head up College Hockey, Inc., the marketing and informational arm for NCAA Division I Ice Hockey.

Kelly will be joined at the event by a trio of all-time hockey greats, as Darryl Sittler, Lanny McDonald and Dave ‘Tiger’ Williams will attend and participate in a round-table discussion hosted by Bernie Pascall. The banquet will be followed a night later by the 2010 BCHL All-Star Game, which will see the defending National Champion Vernon Vipers take on a team composed of the league’s top players.

"I’m very excited to be coming to Nanaimo to be a part of the BCHL’s All-Star festivities," Kelly says. "Since I began in my current role I’ve only heard good things about the BCHL and the large number of players who move on to compete at top NCAA programs. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to meet the coaches and players and learn more about the league."

"On behalf of the British Columbia Hockey League, I’m excited to be able to welcome Paul, Darryl, Lanny and ‘Tiger’ to one of our league’s showcase events," says BCHL Commissioner John Grisdale. "I know that our fans will be excited to meet some of hockey’s most compelling personalities and hear from Paul in his important new role leading College Hockey, Inc."

Tuesday’s banquet begins at 6:00 PM at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, while Wednesday night’s game faces off from the Frank Crane Arena at 7:00 PM. For banquet or game tickets, contact the Nanaimo Clippers office at (250) 751-0593.
