ICERAYS TRAINING CAMP ROSTER AT 28 PLAYERS

Press Release

The Corpus Christi IceRays home-venue training camp opens at the American Bank Center in the first week of September, and 28 players have been invited to attend, IceRays General Manager, Pat Dunn announced on Friday. The IceRays can still add to their list of invitees, but NAHL rules mandate the IceRays roster be no larger than 25 players by opening day on September 15th, and no more than 23 players by October 1st. For more information on the IceRays roster or the upcoming season, please call the IceRays office at 361.814.PUCK.

The IceRays 28-player training camp list currently consists of 16 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders. The group includes 27 American-born players, hailing from 12 different states, and one European-born goaltender, Marco Wieser, who is from Austria. Four of the invited players are from Texas. They are goaltender Taylor Heifetz (Coppell), defenseman Kyle Hughes (Round Rock), and forwards Alex Rosado (Cypress) and Derrek Schartz (Plano). The state which is represented by the most players is Michigan with five invitees. The oldest player is forward Ryan Gaffney, who will turn 21 on January 2nd. Gaffney edges out Josh Munford by two days for that honor. The youngest player is Las Vegas, NV native Cody Milligan, will turn 17 on September 7. Munford is one of three players who measures in at 6’4”, tying for the tallest on the team. He is also the heaviest at 228 lbs. 21 of the 28 players stand six feet or taller, exhibiting that size and toughness will not be lacking in the new-look IceRays.

Ten of the 28 players played in the NAHL last season, including six for the Alpena IceDiggers – the franchise that was moved to Corpus Christi. Three of the IceRays players drafted earlier this summer made it through the initial training camp to join the South Texas camp. They are Alex Rosado (4th round), Joey Parizek (7th round), and Daniel Swink (10th round). The additional 15 players were recruited as free agents by Head Coach, Brent Hughes, and Assistant Coach, Justin Quenneville. The current IceRays training camp list is provided below.
