USHL 2010 Preseason Schedule Set

In addition to the 24 games scheduled for the 2010 USHL Fall Classic, a total of 23 preseason games will be played by USHL teams in September in preparation for the 2010-11 season.

The exhibition portion of the USHL season begins on Friday, September 10th as two games are scheduled. The expansion Muskegon Lumberjacks will play their first game in the League when they host the Chicago Steel at Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings. The game highlights the Motor City Cup Midget Festival hockey tournament, which takes place September 10-12 throughout the Detroit area. Also on Friday, September 10th, the Tri-City Storm play host to the Omaha Lancers at the Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska.

On Saturday, September 11th, the Dubuque Fighting Saints will make their preseason debut in the USHL when they host the Sioux City Musketeers. That same evening, the Youngstown Phantoms will host the Chicago Steel at the Ice Zone in Boardman, Ohio, which will be one of eight USHL preseason games played in non-USHL arenas.

Seven preseason games will be played on Saturday, September 18th and will feature several new coaches in the League. The defending Clark Cup champion Green Bay Gamblers, led by new head coach Eric Rud, wraps up a two-game set with the Chicago Steel. The Lincoln Stars and new head coach Chad Johnson will travel to Omaha to face the Lancers at the Tranquility Ice Plex.

A pair of new USHL coaches will meet that same evening when the Muskegon Lumberjacks with coach Kevin Patrick meet the Indiana Ice and coach Charlie Skjodt. Regg Simon leads the Des Moines Buccaneers to Laverne, Minnesota to face-off with the Sioux Falls Stampede and the Youngstown Phantoms travel to Ann Arbor to play Team USA's U-17 squad which is under the direction of new head coach Danton Cole. The Dubuque Fighting Saints and head coach Jim Montgomery make the trip to Cedar Rapids to meet the RoughRiders.
