Titan’s Zach O’Brien Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that rookie forward Zach O’Brien of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 9. O’Brien scored four goals and six assists for 10 points with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

O’Brien’s week was highlighted by back-to-back four-point games against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles beginning Friday night when he scored the game-winning goal and added three assists as first star of a 6-2 win. On Saturday he repeated as the game’s first star notching two goals and two assists in a 9-3 win over the Screaming Eagles. His week also included a goal and an assist as third star of a 4-3 overtime loss to the Saint John Sea Dogs last Tuesday.

O’Brien, an 18-year-old from St. John’s, Newfoundland, is playing in his first full QMJHL season and leads all first-year players with 39 points in 38 games played.

Also considered for the award this week was Los Angeles Kings prospect Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s and Colorado Avalanche prospect Stefan Elliott of the Saskatoon Blades. Toffoli scored four goals and five assists for nine points in three games while Elliott picked up two goals and four assists for six points in two games.
