BUCKLES COMMITS TO CORNELL

Press Release

Toronto Lakeshore Patriots forward Matt Buckles has confirmed his commitment to join the Cornell University Big Red beginning with the 2013-14 ECAC season.

The 6'1", 195 lbs. native of Toronto, Ontario grew up playing in the successful Don Mills Flyers organization. Thus far this season, the 16-year old rookie has recorded eight goals and sixteen points in 20 games played and earned an invite as one of the Top 40 prospects to play for Team East at the recent CJHL Prospect Games held in Langley, B.C.

"Matty has come a long way so far this season. As is the case with most rookies, he spent the first eight games adjusting to the Junior 'A' level, but since then has really contributed offensively, scoring eight goals in his last 11 games," stated General Manager and Head Coach Mike Tarantino. Tarantino continued by saying, "Just as impressive has been watching how Matty approaches the game with his preparation, consistent compete level, and how he gets along with the boys in the room, being the youngest player on our team".

Buckles joins defenceman James De Haas (who also played in the CJHL Prospect Games) as the second Patriot this season to accept an NCAA Division I scholarship.

Congratulations to Matt and best of luck the rest of the season!
