Dolnik Named to Team Slovakia for WJC

Press Release

EVERETT, WA – The Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League today announced that forward Vladimir Dolnik will compete for Team Slovakia in the 2012 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. This year’s tournament runs from December 26, 2011 to January 5, 2012 in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.

Team Slovakia will compete in Group A at the World Juniors, taking on the likes of Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and Latvia during the preliminary round between December 26 and 31 at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome. Group B, which plays at Rexall Place in Edmonton, will consist of the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland and Denmark.

Dolnik, 18, is in his first WHL season after being selected by Everett in the first round (#21 overall) of the 2011 CHL Import Draft. A native of Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, he represented his home country at last year’s World U18 Championships in Germany, scoring two goals and totaling three points in six games.

The 6-2, 200-pound winger has contributed five assists while playing in 23 games for the Silvertips this season. He also has 18 penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating for the club. Splitting time between Banska Bystrica’s U18 and U20 clubs last year, Dolnik scored 28 goals and totaled 56 points while also compiling 83 penalty minutes in 43 games played. In seven postseason games with the U20 club, he had six more points on four goals and two assists.
