Lakers' Katapaytuk named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Byron Katapaytuk of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period running Nov. 21-27.

In two games this past week the 20-year-old forward registered eight points by tallying twice and dishing out six assists helping the Lakers secure a pair of home ice victories.

The Moose Factory, Ont., product began his award-winning performance by firing the game-winner and setting up four others in a victory over Iron Range Friday and followed that up with another tally and a couple of helpers in a come from behind triumph over Duluth on Saturday.

Katapaytuk’s efforts have moved him all the way up into a share of second overall in SIJHL scoring with 35 points on 15 goals and 20 assists. His three game-winning tallies is just one off the league lead as well.

The third-year SIJHLer will receive a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut for his weekly accolades.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Mike Dietrich, (F) Wisconsin Wilderness; Jesse Linner, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Matt Kaarela, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Cody Stettin, (F) Duluth Clydesdales; Anthony Wolfe, (F) Sioux Lookout Flyers and Ryan Alves (F) Iron Range Iron Heads.

At the conclusion of the 2011-12 regular season the top performer in the SIJHL will be presented with the Pizza Hut player of the year award.
