Barrett Kaib commits to Northern Michigan

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Barrett Kaib has committed to Northern Michigan University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Wildcats are coached by Walt Kyle who enters his 11th season behind the bench.

Kaib returned to the USHL after playing last season with Providence University of the Hockey East Conference. Kaib appeared in 31 games tallying six points for the Friars. In 2010-11 Kaib skated in 44 games for the U.S. National Under-18 Team where he posted seven assists and appeared in three games for the U.S. National Under-17 Team. During the 2009-10 campaign, Kaib skated in 34 games with the U.S. National Under-17 Team and notched a goal and five assists. Internationally, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native posted three points (1 goal and 2 assists) in 10 games against and was part of the U.S. squad that earned first place at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Timmins, Ont. Kaib scored a goal and added an assist in six games. Prior to playing for the NTDP, Kaib skated in 47 games for Culver Academy where the defenseman notched five goals and 12 assists.

Kaib becomes the 15th Gambler on the 2012-2013 squad to commit to a NCAA Division I institution. Others include forwards Tanner Pond (Northeastern), Kyle Novak (Western Michigan), Matthew Weis (Ohio State), Nicholas Schilkey (Ohio State), Alex Kile (Michigan) Ryan Siroky (Miami), Kevin Irwin (Vermont), Nick Schmaltz (North Dakota), Sheldon Dries (Western Michigan) defensemen, Ben Gallacher (UMass-Amherst), Jake Linhart (Wisconsin), Brandon Kirk (Dartmouth), Gustav Olofsson (Colorado College) and Jordan Gross (Notre Dame).
