Musketeers Forward Chooses University of Alaska-Fairbanks

Press Release

Sioux City Musketeers forward Josh Erickson has committed to play college hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

Erickson has totaled eight points (3g, 5a) and a plus-two rating in 33 games for the Musketeers this season.  He equaled a career high with two points (1g, 1a) while posting a plus-two rating in the 3-2 shootout loss to Lincoln on January 25th.  Erickson has recorded an even-or-better plus/minus rating in each of his last 10 games and in 16 of his last 17 contests.

It is the second season in the USHL for the 19-year-old who put up 11 points (6g, 5a) in 46 games last year in Sioux City.  The gritty forward from Roseau, Minnesota has also racked up 213 penalty minutes in 79 career games in the League.

Two other current USHL players are committed to play hockey at Alaska-Fairbanks; Lincoln Stars defenseman Justin Woods and Tri-City Storm forward Jared Linnell, both of whom are Alaska natives.

The University of Alaska-Fairbanks is a member of the CCHA and has six USHL alumni on the Nanooks rosters this season; Steve Thompson (Sioux City/Omaha), Andy Taranto (Fargo Force), Nolan Youngmun (Sioux Falls Stampede), J.D. Peterson (Tri-City/Des Moines), John Keeney (Muskegon/Omaha), and Matt Friese (Lincoln/Chicago/Tri-City).
