Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2013
NHL Draft prospect Zachary Fucale of the Halifax Mooseheads is the
Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting a 3-0-0-0 record
including one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.33 and
save percentage of .962 for the week ending February 17.
Fucale made 101 saves last week and set a new Mooseheads franchise
record with 69 career victories passing Jean-Sebastien Giguere who
earned 68 wins between 1994-97. The new record was set on Sunday when
he stopped 32 shots as second star of a 5-2 victory over the PEI
Rocket. On Saturday Fucale claimed first star honours with 39 saves in a
5-2 win over the Moncton Wildcats, and began the week by recording his
second shutout of the season with 30 saves on Tuesday night earning
third star honours with a 7-0 win over the Rocket.
Fucale, a 17-year-old from Rosemere, Quebec, is playing in his second
QMJHL season with the Mooseheads. The top ranked goaltender of the
2013 NHL Draft, Fucale has a 37-5-1-1 record this season with a
goals-against-average of 2.41 and save percentage of .905.
Also considered for the award this week was Mathias Niederberger of
the Barrie Colts who posted a 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory
along with a goals-against-average of 0.43 and save percentage of .983.
In the WHL, Patrik Bartosak of the Red Deer Rebels also went 2-0-0-0
with one shutout posting a goals-against-average of 0.96 and save
percentage of .974.
