President Craig Cripps Departs Alberta Junior Hockey League

Press Release

Alberta Junior Hockey League President Craig T. Cripps formally announced today that after seven years at the helm of the AJHL, he will not be returning for the 2013-2014 AJHL season.  Cripps’ contract with the League expires at the completion of the 2013 regular season.

"After seven years serving as President of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, I am proud of my accomplishments, most of which were a part of my initial vision for the League when I was hired,” stated Cripps.  “Along with a dedicated staff, we have realized critical accomplishments and improved the AJHL, making it a stronger brand while providing a safe environment for our athletes. I am confident that I am leaving the League in a much better state than when I first started.”

The Alberta Junior Hockey League has become one of the premier leagues in Junior A hockey with initiatives such as the Annual AJHL Showcase, the AJHL Network, AJHL Web TV, and the AJHL Guidebook.  A growing number of AJHL athletes continue to represent their team and country at elite level events across North America, on College and University rosters, and on the NHL stage. Internally, the AJHL has undergone a significant review of its governance and bylaws, executive structure, and daily operations.

“The League has renewed positive relationships with Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta, and these strong relationships have resulted in the success of events such as the World Junior A Challenge and RBC Cup,” said Cripps.  “The AJHL is a valuable member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League and I am proud of the contribution the League has made at the national level in recent years.”

During Cripps’ tenure, he also served on the CJHL Executive and was an integral leader in the development of the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup, rebranding of the CJHL, and the creation of the Junior A Supplement.  "The Junior A Supplement should be viewed as a historic document in the world of hockey,” said Cripps.  “I am very proud of the Presidents and Commissioners of the five leagues that spent countless hours creating this document.  Its true purpose is to better protect players and hold individuals more accountable for their actions.  I can say without hesitation it has and will continue to improve our game, allowing the true skill of Canadian players to thrive."

Craig Cripps was introduced as the 14th President of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in May 2006. Cripps will be available for media inquiries until March 2nd, 2013.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League will announce the details of a new AJHL Executive and Staff over the coming days.
