Staples on the move

Press Release

The Jr. Trappers played their first game with new captain Ryan Demyen, who replaces the Trappers former captain Jake Staples. The Callander native, and Trappers leading scorer, had requested a trade earlier in the week to join his older brother Dylan with the Pembroke Lumber Kings of the CCHL.

Dylan Staples’ rights were acquired from the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, who released him early in the week.

"We are disappointed to say the least, but when Jake’s older brother was released from the OHL Greyhounds and wound up in Pembroke, the family wanted both players to play together for at least 1 year of Junior Hockey together,” said Jr. Trappers owner/president David Beauchamp.

“Jake is a great person and even a better leader and because of that we accommodated him.”

As part of the deal the Trappers acquired 19-year-old Lumber Kings forward Blake Peavey. The Tampa Bay, Florida product recorded 2 assists in 15 games with the Lumber Kings this season but is coming off a 32-point campaign with the South Grenville Rangers of the Eastern Ontario Jr. B Hockey League last year.

Peavey is expected to arrive in North Bay early in the week.
