Parkes Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Trevor Parkes of the Montreal Juniors is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 8. Parkes scored five goals with two assists for seven points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.

Parkes began his week on Wednesday night with the best game of his season scoring his first career hat-trick where he was named first star of the game despite a 5-4 loss to the Lewiston MAINEiacs. On Friday night he repeated as first star of the game this time registering two assists in a 4-2 win over the Gatineau Olympiques. His week finished on Sunday helping the Juniors secure a 5-2 win over the Quebec Remparts scoring the game-winning goal on the power play at 10:09 of the second period, and later adding the insurance marker into the empty net at 18:35 of the third period for his team-leading 13th goal of the season.

Parkes, an 18-year-old from Fort Erie, ON, is playing in his first QMJHL season with the Juniors. The rookie leads his club in scoring with 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points in 21 games.

Also considered this week was Brendan Shinnimin of the WHL’s Tri-City Americans who scored three goals and three assists for six points in two games. His week was highlighted by a four-point game with two goals and two assists as first star of an 8-2 win over the Vancouver Giants on Friday night. Phil Varone of the OHL’s London Knights was also considered after recording seven points in three games including one goal and six assists. His best game was played Saturday where he collected four assists as second star of a 5-3 win over the Ottawa 67’s.
