Telus Players of the Week

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, November 16, 2009 – Rouyn-Noranda forward Philippe Cornet and Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Mathieu Corbeil-Thériault today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from November 9 to 15.

Cornet scored four goals, including two game-winners, and added two assists in three Huskies wins. Moreover, he posted a +2 rating. Cornet played his best game of the week versus the archrival Foreurs on Wednesday, registering three points in a 5-3 victory. The Huskies are the owners of the top spot in the TELUS Western Division standings.

Gabriel Lévesque (Huskies), Jonathan Brunelle (Voltigeurs) and Mike Hoffman (Sea Dogs) were also considered.

On defence, Mathieu Corbeil-Thériault gets the hardware for a second consecutive week. In two starts, the Mooseheads’ goaltender collected two wins while posting a 1.00 goals-against-average and a very impressive .971 save percentage. He stopped an average of 34 shots per game. Finally, Corbeil-Thériault captured first-star honours in a 2-1 win over the Moncont Wildcats. The Mooseheads have won their last four games.

Kevin Poulin (Tigres), Marco Scandella (Foreurs) and Nathan Beaulieu (Sea Dogs) were also considered.
