The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the ninth week of the 2009-10 USHL regular season and all three are members of the Waterloo Black Hawks.
Congratulations to forward Brock Montpetit, named Reebok Offensive Player of the Week; Dan Sova, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and C.J. Motte, who earned honors as the USHL Goaltender of the Week.
Montpetit registered nine points (4g, 5a) and a plus-six rating as the Black Hawks extended their winning streak to four games. The 19-year-old forward scored a power play goal and dished out two assists in the 5-2 win vs. Omaha on Wednesday. He netted two goals, including one shorthanded, and collected one assist in the 6-3 victory over Cedar Rapids on Thanksgiving Day. Montpetit then recorded his third straight three-point game (1g, 2a) in Saturday’s 5-2 win vs. Indiana. The native of Somerset, Wisconsin is playing in his third USHL season and currently leads Waterloo in scoring with 23 points (9g, 14a) through 17 games which ranks tied for sixth overall in the League.
Sova recorded six points (2g, 4a) and a plus-eight rating while extending his point streak to five games. On Wednesday, the defenseman dished out assists on each of the first two goals for Waterloo in the 5-2 win vs. Omaha. Sova, 19, scored the first goal of the game and collected an assist in the first period of the 6-3 win vs. Cedar Rapids on Thanksgiving. The native of Cottage Grove, Minnesota also matched his season high with a plus-four rating on Thursday. Sova finished his weekend by scoring two points (1g, 1a) in the first period of Saturday’s 5-2 win over Indiana. The second-year USHL blueliner has registered nine points (3g, 6a) and a plus-10 rating in 17 games this season for Waterloo.
Motte was in goal for all three Waterloo victories posting a 2.33 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage. He made 33 saves in Wednesday’s win vs. Omaha before making 24 saves the following night vs. Cedar Rapids. The 17-year-old netminder stopped 32 shots in Saturday’s win vs. Indiana to win his fourth consecutive start and it was the fourth time in his past five appearances that he has made 32-or-more saves in a game. Motte is playing in his first USHL season and the native of St. Clair, Michigan has earned a 6-6-0 record, including one shutout in his rookie campaign.
