Honourary Captains Announced for OHL SUBWAY® Super Series Games

 Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Ontario Hockey League and the Ottawa 67’s and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Hockey Clubs today announced that Master Corporal Vincent Corriveau, and former Greyhound Aaron Gavey will serve as Honourary Captains for the 2011 SUBWAY® Super Series.

Corriveau will participate in the pregame ceremonies as part of the game on Thursday November 10 in Ottawa, with Gavey in attendance for the game in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday November 14.

Vincent Corriveau was born in Levis, Quebec in September 1979 and officially joined the Canadian Forces in 2002. He started his military career in the Navy however, decided to join the army in 2007 as a Geospatial Engineer.  After graduating from Algonquin College in 2009 he went on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan with the Regional Command South in Kandahar from November 2009 to July 2010 and was the only Canadian embedded with British and American troops. Six months later, he returned to Afghanistan with the Royal 22nd Regiment Battle Group in Kandahar returning in April, 2011.

Aaron Gavey, a 37-year-old native of Sudbury, ON, was a member of the Soo Greyhounds for three seasons spanning from 1991-92 through 1993-94.  A member of the 1993 Memorial Cup Championship winning team, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 4th Round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.  IN 1993-94 he scored a career-high 102 points in 60 games with the Hounds.  After a professional career that spanned 13 seasons, Gavey returned to Sault Ste. Marie where he currently resides with his wife Jennifer and three children Josh, Elizabeth and Olivia.

The 2011 SUBWAY® Super Series marks the ninth straight year that teams of CHL All-Stars have competed against Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championship.  The SUBWAY® Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation process prior to Team Canada’s final selection camp in December.  This season, Canada will be competing for their 14th straight medal at the 2012 tournament in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.
