LANCERS D MORRISON COMMITS TO WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY

OMAHA, NE – The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Kenney Morrison has committed to Western Michigan University and will join the Broncos when his junior career is complete. A native of Lloydminster, Alberta, Morrison is in his first season with the Lancers and has tallied one point (one assist) to go along with eight penalty minutes through the first 14 games of the 2011-2012 season. Morrison leads all Omaha defensemen and is tied for third among all USHL blueliners with 31 shots on goal.

The 6’2”, 190 pound defenseman spent last season with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he registered 35 points (eight goals, 27 assists) in 55 games. Morrison was selected 71st overall (Round 5) by Omaha in the 2011 USHL Entry Draft.

Five other players currently on USHL rosters are already committed to Western Michigan including D Chris Dienes (CR), F Sheldon Dries (GB), F Nolan LaPorte (GB), D Mike McKee (LIN) and F Kyle Novak (MUS). Morrison will also join former Lancers defenseman Dennis Brown at Western Michigan.

So, this is moderately insane... Last year Wild prospect Mikael Granlund turned heads with his Floorball-style (or 'lacross-style' for the uninitiated) goal during Finland's semifinal game against Russia in the World Championships. Mikael's younger brother Markus (a Flames prospect) notched a similar goal a year ago and another today in SM-Liiga action. Check it out:
