Portland Winterhawks Sign Ben Betker

Press Release

The Portland Winterhawks have signed 17-year-old defenseman Ben Betker, who will suit up for the team tonight in Kamloops.

The Winterhawks added Betker to the team’s protected list in June. This season Betker has played 13 games for the Westside Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League, with one goal and two assists for three points. He spent last season with the Kootenay Ice of the British Columbia Major Midget League and registered one goal and 12 assists for 13 points in 38 games.

“Ben is a talented young defenseman who had a number of opportunities available to him, so we’re excited he’s chosen to sign with us,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “He will be a valuable member of our defensive corps in the coming years.”
