Charlottetown Islanders Trade Oligny

Press Release

The Charlottetown Islanders have traded defenseman Jimmy Oligny to the Rimouski Oceanic. In return the Islanders receive the Oceanic’s 1st round draft pick in 2014 as well as a conditional 4th round pick in 2014.

“Anytime you move a quality player like Jimmy Oligny there is a great deal of thought put into it”, said Charlottetown Islanders general manager Grant Sonier. “We are very happy with the trade on all fronts and feel it was the right move for our team going forward.”

Oligny had been a member of the Island team since joining the league as a 16-year-old in 2009.  The 5’11” 200 lb. defenseman played 189 games with the franchise, scored 21 goals and added 60 assists.  He also had 384 PIM during four seasons.

“We would like to wish Jimmy and his family all the best going forward with Rimouski as he continues his playing career,” said Sonier. “He was an important part of the franchise for the past four seasons and we thank him for all his time and efforts.”
