SULMONTE SIGNS PRO TRYOUT CONTRACT WITH MISSISSIPPI

Press Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Former IceRays forward and 2012-13 leading point scorer Rudy Sulmonte has signed a pro tryout contract with the Mississippi RiverKings in the Southern Professional Hockey League for the 2013-2014 season.

“It definitely feels great and exciting to get an opportunity to try out for a pro team,” said Sulmonte.  “This is a huge step from juniors and I just have to put in hard work this summer and go to camp in top shape.”

Before coming to South Texas, Sulmonte had stints in the OHL with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and the QMJHL with Moncton before moving the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

The North American Hockey League awaited Sulmonte in Fairbanks for 16 games scoring five goals and seven assists along with seven total points in nine playoff games with the Ice Dogs helping them advance to the Robertson Cup Finals in Frisco, Texas.

With the IceRays during the 2012-2013 season, the New York native put up 27 goals and 41 assists for 68 points in 60 total regular season games played.  During the four game playoff series with Amarillo, Sulmonte added a pair of goals.

“Playing in Corpus Christi last year not only helped me build myself as a better two way player but advanced me in all aspects of my game as well,” Sulmonte added.  “I would like to thank the coaching staff for pushing me into being a better player today.”

While in the NAHL, Sulmonte was named to the South Division Star of the Week in December as the IceRays picked up a weekend sweep on the road of the Odessa Jackalopes where he helped racking up four goals and two assists in the weekend wins.  Both the goals were game winners.

The SPHL is made up of ten professional teams including Bloomington, Columbus, Fayetteville, Huntsville, Knoxville, Louisiana, Pensacola, Peoria, the Mississippi Surge, and the Mississippi RiverKings.
