Oiler Edwardh Commits to UMass Lowell

The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that John Edwardh has accepted a scholarship offer to the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks.  Details of when John will attend UMass Lowell will be determined in the future.

Edwardh, an 18-year old forward from Calgary has played one season with the Oilers.  In 54 games played this past season, Edwardh led the Oilers in rookie scoring with 18 goals, 19 assists and 37 points.   Edwardh took his game to another level in the playoffs where he finished 2nd in AJHL playoff scoring with 19 points and 1st in AJHL playoff goals with 13 in 16 playoff games, which includes an impressive 6 game winning goals.   Edwardh was named to the 2012-2013 AJHL South Division All-Rookie team, and CJHL First Star for the month of March.

Based in Lowell, Massachusetts, the UMass Lowell River Hawks compete in the NCAA’s Hockey East Conference.  The River Hawks just won their first Hockey East Championship in 2012-2013, and made the first appearance in the programs history to the NCAA Frozen Four losing in the semi-finals to the eventual champion Yale Bulldogs.

Coach James Poole stated, “The Oilers organization would like to congratulate John & his family on earning this opportunity.  John had a very strong rookie season and outstanding playoffs and has the potential to become a truly elite player in the AJHL.  While we look forward to John‘s continued contributions throughout his Oiler career, UMass Lowell can look forward to getting a quality individual on & off the ice that has a very promising future.”
