O'Handley on Camp Staff

Press Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley will assist the Chicago Blackhawks with a three-day training and skills camp for junior- and midget-aged hockey players later this month.

The July 20-22 gathering at West Meadows Ice Arena in the Chicago suburbs is part of the Chicago Blackhawks Youth Hockey Summer Camp series, led by former NHL player and television commentator Eddie Olczyk. Participants aged 14-18 will spend over two hours on the ice each day.

"I think this will be a lot of fun," said O'Handley. "We'll be at the rink with a lot of talented young players who are excited about hockey. And for me, it will be an opportunity to watch some other very good coaches at work, so it should be a learning experience all the way around."

In addition to O'Handley and Olczyk - himself a former NHL Head Coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins - Sioux City Musketeers Head Coach Luke Strand will serve as an instructor. O'Handley helped to develop Strand's playing skills when the two men were coach and player respectively for the North Iowa Huskies in the 1990's. Also working at the camp are NCAA assistant coaches Andy Slaggert (Notre Dame) and Red Gendron (UMass).

Limited space still remains for interested players. More information is available from the Chicago Blackhawks website, blackhawks.nhl.com.
