Cataractes’ Bournival Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Michaël Bournival of the Shawinigan Cataractes is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 24. He scored five goals with four assists for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-9.

Bournival was twice named first star of the game including Friday night when he scored four goals including the game-winner in an 8-1 win over the PEI Rocket. One night later he repeated as the game’s first star with a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. His week also included a three assist performance as second star Wednesday in a 6-0 win over the Lewiston MAINEiacs.

Bournival, an 18-year-old from Shawinigan-Sud, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season. The Cataractes captain has 18 points in 13 games and was selected in the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

Craig Cunningham of the Vancouver Giants also recorded nine points to receive consideration for the award this week. He scored one goal with eight assists to help the Giants win three games. In the OHL, another Avalanche prospect Joey Hishon of the Owen Sound Attack picked up four goals and four assists for eight points in two games.
