STORM ADD SIZE AND POWER, ACQUIRE DARIK ANGELI

Press Release

KEARNEY, Neb. – Head Coach and General Manger Drew Schoneck announced Tuesday morning that the Tri-City Storm have acquired forward Darik Angeli from the Chicago Steel in exchange for forwards Tucker Brockett and Matthew Friese.

Angeli, who is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, has three goals, two assists and a plus-1 rating in six games this season. Currently, he is in the top 10 in scoring in the USHL. Last season, the forward had 15 goals and 10 assists, as he split time between the Sioux City Musketeers and the Steel in his first season in the league.

“Darik has a big presence on the ice and moves well for his size, and he will be a welcomed addition to our forward ranks,” Schoneck said about the 20-year old from Lakewood, Colo. “We saw him numerous times last season and he had success against us when he played with Sioux City and Chicago.”

Angeli had three goals and three assists in seven games last season against the Storm.

Brockett, who is from Shaker Heights, Ohio, had four goals, one assist and was a minus-1 in five games this season with the Storm. The 5-foot-7 forward had 10 goals and 13 assists in 59 games with the Lincoln Stars and Storm last season.

“We needed to trade something to get something in return. And, while it was not an easy decision, we are looking at what is in the best interest of our team by acquiring Darik,” Schoneck added. “We wish Tucker and Matt all the best with the Steel and we thank them for their time with the Storm.”

Friese, a native of Wasilla, Alaska, is in his first full-season in the USHL and has not recorded a point in four games with the Storm. Last season, he played in two games in January for Tri-City after getting called up from the NAHL and scored one goal against Waterloo.

This trade marks the second time in the last six months that the Storm and Steel have traded players with each other. The Storm acquired defensemen Dan Kolomatis (originally Kevin Lind), Zack Rall and forward Cory Czarnik from Chicago for the first overall pick (F Adam Krause) in the 2010 USHL Entry Draft on May 19th.

Angeli will wear number ‘10’ for the Storm and will be eligible to play this weekend, as Tri-City is on the road for both games against the Lincoln Stars (Friday) and Sioux City Musketeers (Saturday).
