Cataractes’ Girard Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Gabriel Girard of the Shawinigan Cataractes is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 24. Girard posted two wins including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .984.

Girard opened the week on Wednesday with his first shutout of the season making 31 saves as third star of a 6-0 win over the Lewiston MAINEiacs. Girard would make another 31 saves including 12 in the third period on Friday night to preserve an 8-1 win over the PEI Rocket where he was again named third star of the contest.

Girard, a 19-year-old from Varennes, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Cataractes and has posted a 6-4-0-1 record with a goals-against-average of 2.53 and save percentage of .916 so far this season.

Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks and JP Anderson of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors were also considered for the award. Both earned a shutout victory with Carruth posting a goals-against-average of 0.480 and save percentage of .979, while Anderson had a 1.52 goals-against-average and .947 save percentage in two starts.
