Surrey's McGowan named BCHL POW

Press Release

Surrey Eagles forward Brad McGowan has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending October 24th, the league announced Monday.

McGowan helped lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record last week, beginning with two assists in a 5-1 triumph over the Coquitlam Express. The 20-year old was then a key contributor in back-to-back wins over the Langley Chiefs, as he scored once and collected three assists in a 5-3 road victory on Saturday before netting two goals and an assist on home ice a day later.

Overall, McGowan paced all BCHL scorers with nine points last week and grew his lead atop the league scoring charts to five points on 18 goals and 22 assists. The Langley, B.C. product also secured a scholarship mid-week, choosing to commit to the Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2011/12 season.

Honourable mentions for this week's award include Trail Smoke Eaters forward Scott Jacklin, Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Mike Hammond and Powell River Kings forward Chad Niddery.
