NAHL announces Players of the Week

FRISCO, TEXAS - The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced its Players of the Week, sponsored by SBK Hockey, for the week ending Oct. 24.

SBK HOCKEY NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cody Wydo - Motor City Metal Jackets

Motor City forward Cody Wydo rang up three goals and two assists as the Metal Jackets finished the weekend with a 1-2 record. On Friday, the Wyandotte, Mich., native tallied a goal in a 3-1 loss to Michigan. The next night, the 19-year-old came through with a goal and two assists as Motor City fell to the Warriors, 7-5. Wydo scored another goal in a 5-1 triumph over the Port Huron Fighting Falcons on Sunday. He was also a plus-4 for the weekend.

“Cody continues to play solid, two-way hockey,” said Metal Jackets head coach David Cole. “He’s worked very hard in all aspects of the game and has developed into a solid Division I prospect.”

SBK HOCKEY SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mac Olson - Wichita Falls Wildcats

Wichita Falls forward Mac Olson connected for four goals and two assists as the Wildcats fashioned a 2-1 record. On Friday, the Grosse Pointe, Mich., native scored a goal in a 5-3 loss to the Amarillo Bulls. The next night, the 19-year-old recorded an assist as the Wildcats downed New Mexico, 5-1. On Sunday, Olson notched a hat trick, including the game-winning marker, and an assist in Wichita Falls’ 5-3 triumph over the Mustangs.

“Mac has been our most consistent forward this season,” said Wildcats head coach Mark LeRose. “He has good vision with the puck and competes every night. He’s one of the most dynamic forwards in our league.”

SBK HOCKEY CENTRAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cory Ward - Aberdeen Wings

Aberdeen forward Cory Ward struck for two goals and four assists as the Wings celebrated a two-game sweep over Alexandria. On Friday, the Las Vegas native tallied a goal and three assists in a 5-2 victory. The next night, the 17-year-old put home a goal and another assist as the Wings downed the Blizzard, 6-2. He was also plus-3 on the weekend.

SBK HOCKEY WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Zach Frye - Wenatchee Wild

Wenatchee defenseman Zach Frye picked up a goal and two assists as the Wild skated to a two-game sweep over Fresno. On Friday, the Spokane, Wash., native registered an assist in a 3-2 victory. The next night, the 16-year-old notched a goal and another assist as the Wild bested the Monsters in a shootout, 4-3.

"Physically, emotionally and skill-set wise, Zach is well beyond his actual age,” said Wild head coach Paul Baxter. “He’s already received considerable interest and offers from some very high-level Division I schools, and I believe he’ll be an exceptional college player and will have an excellent opportunity of playing at the highest level beyond college."

HONORABLE MENTION: Fresno forward Jordan Lovick

SBK HOCKEY GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
David Jacobson - Janesville Jets

Janesville goaltender David Jacobson backstopped the Jets to a two-game sweep over Traverse City, turning aside 42 of 44 shots. On Friday, the Janesville native stopped all 26 shots he faced in a 4-0 victory. The next night, the 19-year-old made 26 saves as the Jets bested the North Stars, 3-2.

“David had a great weekend for us, and he’s played well all year,” said Jets head coach Dane Litke. “A lot of our success this season has been because of his outstanding play and we hope it continues.”
