Eagles' McGowan commits to RIT

Press Release

The British Columbia Hockey League's Surrey Eagles are proud to announce that forward Brad McGowan has committed to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology and suit up for the NCAA Division I Tigers for the 2011/12 hockey season.

Hailing from Langley, B.C., McGowan joined the Eagles for the 2009/10 campaign after winning a Western Canadian Championship with the Richmond Sockeyes of the PIJHL. This season McGowan leads the Eagles and is second in BCHL scoring with 31 points in 15 games.

“It is exciting to go to a school which supports their sports teams so passionately," says McGowan. "I went for a fly down last week and they had 10,000 fans for a RIT game at an AHL rink. The energy in the building was amazing and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”

“We are very excited for Brad to attend RIT next fall," says Eagles head coach Matt Erhart. "Brad has worked extremely hard to prepare himself for this opportunity and will be an excellent addition to the RIT program."

RIT has established itself as one of the top teams in Division 1 hockey as the Tigers reached the Frozen Four last season for the first time in school history. RIT has a strong relationship with the Eagles organization as now three consecutive years an Eagle has committed to RIT. Scott Knowles and Adam Hartley will join McGowan as Surrey alumni in Rochester.
