DC, Pikes Peak, Rocky Mountain crowned NAPHL champs

The DC Capitals (18U), Pikes Peak Miners (16U) and Rocky Mountain RoughRiders (14U) were crowned champions of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) after winning the title games in their respective divisions on Monday at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Defenseman Josh Bretner notched the game-winning goal and an assist as the Capitals downed the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders in the 18U championship game, 3-2.  In goal, Paul Bourbeau turned aside 12 shots.

In the 16U championship contest, goaltender Danny Kowalski stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Pikes Peak Miners blanked the California Titans, 2-0. Forwards James Huerena and Jeremy Rezaeepour scored the Miners’ goals.

Forward Brandon Fushimi rang up a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and an assist in the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders’ 5-2 triumph over the Motor City Metal Jackets in the championship game of the 14U division.  In goal, Dean Shatzer made 10 saves.

Last year in San Jose, Calif., the California Titans (18U) and Pikes Peak Miners (16U) skated to the NAPHL’s inaugural championships in their respective divisions.
