North, Central skate to Top Prospects wins

Team North (1-1) and Team Central (1-1) skated to wins on the second day of the three-day North American Hockey League (NAHL) Top Prospects Tournament on Monday at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Mich.

In Team North’s 6-2 victory over Team West (1-1), forward Tim Opie (Traverse City North Stars) rang up two goals, including the game-winner, while RJ Kleiman (St. Louis Bandits), Cody Wydo (Motor City Metal Jackets) and Ross Mauermann (Janesville Jets) each picked up a goal and an assist.

Goaltender David Jacobson (Janesville) made 29 saves in the victory.

Forward Connor Gaarder (Coulee Region Chill) recorded a hat trick while forwards Andy Singerhouse (Owatonna Express), Zac Frischmon (Coulee Region) and Nick Widing (Owatonna) also fashioned three-point nights in Team Central’s 8-3 triumph over Team South (1-1).

In goal for Team Central, Frederick Leisner (Aberdeen Wings) stopped 15 of 16 shots and Jake Williams (Alexandria Blizzard) made 11 saves.

On the third and final day of the tournament, Team West will face off against Team South (9:30 a.m. local time) and Team Central will play Team North (12:15 p.m.).

At the Top Prospects Tournament, which runs from Feb. 20-22, four teams - Team Central, Team North, Team South and Team West - are playing a three-game round robin.
