MUSTANGS NAME SJHL AWARD NOMINEES

Press Release

The Melfort Mustangs hockey club and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League have announced the three players that will represent the team in year-end awards at the end of the season. The announcement of what players have been nominated by the team was made today as the SJHL’s President Tour presented by Source Embroidery-Yorkton made its 12th and final stop in Melfort. The President’s Tour is a chance to promote the upcoming SJHL playoffs and to show off the Credit Union Cup and the SJHL Sask-Tel Showcase of Awards

MELFORT MUSTANGS YEAR END AWARD NOMINEES

Most Outstanding Player – Charles Corsi

The biggest move in the SJHL this year may have been when the Mustangs acquired Charles Corsi via trade from the BC Junior Hockey League. Without Corsi, it is hard to say where the Mustangs might be this year. The 20 year old is at the top or on top in many goaltending categories. He will have to be at the top of his game if the Mustangs are to take a run at the Credit Union Cup.

Most Outstanding Defenceman – Lee Christensen

The Winnipeg product is one of the best defencemen in the SJHL. His style and play is one that has scouts believing Christensen has what it takes to become an NHL’er one day. He has provided whatever coach Darrell Mann has asked of him this year and has taken his game to the next level in the process.

Top Rookie – Jesse Ehnisz

The 1991 born goaltender from Unity hasn’t had much of a chance to play this year because of the play of Charles Corsi, but whenever Corsi has needed a rest, Ehnisz has come in and has given the Mustangs a boost. With Corsi graduating at the end of this year,, Ehnisz has shown Mustangs fans and the organization that they have a number one goalie to work with next season.

These three players will join the nominees from the 11 other SJHL teams for year-end awards. Those awards will be announced shortly after the end of the regular-season.
