Toffoli and Hamilton Named OHL Captains for SUBWAY® Super Series

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Ontario Hockey League today announced that Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s and Dougie Hamilton of the Niagara IceDogs have been named Team OHL captains for the 2011 SUBWAY® Super Series games that will take place Thursday November 10 in Ottawa and Monday November 14 in Sault Ste. Marie.

Toffoli will lead Team OHL in game three of the six-game series in front of his home 67’s fans against the Russian National Junior Team before Hamilton takes over as captain for game four of the series in Sault Ste. Marie.  In addition, five different players will serve as assistant captains between the two games including forward Ryan Spooner of the Kingston Frontenacs who will be an assistant in both games.  The IceDogs’ Freddie Hamilton and Boone Jenner of the Oshawa Generals will join Toffoli and Spooner as assistants Thursday night in Ottawa, while the IceDogs’ Ryan Strome and Ryan Sproul of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds will be assistants joining Spooner and Hamilton in Sault Ste. Marie.

Toffoli, a 19-year-old from Scarborough, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the 67’s and will be representing Team OHL in this series for the third straight year.  The Los Angeles Kings prospect finished tied for first in OHL scoring last season with 108 points in 68 games earning the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy.  This season he has 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in 16 games with the 67’s.

Dougie Hamilton, an 18-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his third OHL season and competed against the Russians in this event last season in Sudbury.  The reigning OHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year was selected ninth overall by the Boston Bruins and currently leads all defencemen in scoring with 25 points in 17 games.

Spooner, Jenner, and Strome each competed in the series last year while Sproul and Freddie Hamilton will each represent Team OHL for the first time in this series.  All five players are NHL prospects with Strome representing the highest pick on Team OHL selected fifth overall by the New York Islanders in 2011.
