McKay Commits to Miami of Ohio

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Ryan McKay has committed to Miami of Ohio of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. McKay is the second player on the Gamblers roster to commit to the Red Hawks, joining forward Austin Czarnik.

McKay enters his second year with the Gamblers after an impressive rookie campaign in 2009-10. The Palatine, Illinois native finished second among all USHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.20), fourth in save percentage (.909) while compiling a regular season mark of 14-8-2.

McKay becomes the 12th Gambler off the 2010-11 squad to commit to a NCAA Division I institution. Others include forwards Alex Broadhurst (Nebraska-Omaha) Austin Czarnik (Miami of Ohio), Ludwig Karlsson (Northeastern), William Kessel (Western Michigan), J.P. LaFontaine (Minnesota State-Mankato), defensemen Aaron Harstad (Colorado College), Max Hartner (Air Force), Brian O’Rourke (Nebraska-Omaha), Brett Stern (Minnesota State-Mankato), Andy Welinski (Minnesota-Duluth) and goaltender Adam Wilcox (Minnesota).

Thanks for the release.

By the way, the college is called Miami University. It was founded in 1809, when the state of Florida did not even exist (still belonged to the Spanish at that point, you see). And, as Miami University does not and never did include the words "of Ohio," in the hockey world there is only one Miami. The Miami RedHawks.
