TIGERS' SHINKARUK WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Medicine Hat Tigers forward Hunter Shinkaruk is the WHL Player of the Week.

Shinkaruk collected 11 points, scoring seven goals and four assists to go with a +5 rating, in three games over the past week helping the Tigers to a 2-0-1-0 record.

On Tuesday, November 1, the Tigers’ welcomed the Everett Silvertips to The Arena in Medicine Hat. Shinkaruk scored three goals, three assists and was named the games 1st Star in the Tigers 10-2 triumph over the ‘Tips. On Saturday, November 5, the Tigers were in Brandon to face the Wheat Kings. Shinkaruk picked up his third hat-trick this season, scoring three goals, and was again named the games 1st Star in the Tigers 4-3 over-time win over the Wheaties. On Sunday, November 6, the Tigers visited the Brandt Centre in Regina to take on the Pats. Shinkaruk scored one goal, added an assist and was named the games 2nd Star in the Tigers 4-3 over-time loss to the Pats.

Shinkaruk currently sits 10th among all WHL scorers with 25 points in 19 games played and 2nd in goals scored with 18 on the season. The Tigers have won seven of their past 10 games and currently sit tied for top spot in the WHL Central Division, Eastern Conference and entire League with the Kootenay Ice posting a 13-5-1-0 record for 27 points.

The WHL has also nominated Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Carruth posted a 3-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping all 56 of 59 shots faced for a 0.949 save-percentage and 1.50 goals-against average. Carruth, a native of Shorewood, MN, led the Winterhawks to road victories over the Kamloops Blazers and Kelowna Rockets.
