SJHL TRADES ANNOUNCED

Press Release

A handful of trades have come across this week, with Yorkton, Kindersley, and Nipawin all making deals with Manitoba Junior Hockey League clubs.

The only 'player-for-player' deal sees the Yorkton Terriers send 20-year-old goaltender Warren Shymko to the Swan Valley Stampeders in exchange for 19-year-old forward Derek Falloon. Shymko backed up the Terriers for both of their finals appearances in 2010 and 2011, and took the starting role this past season, going 18-11-2, with a 2.46 GAA, .912% and 2 shutouts. Falloon, from Russell, MB, had 35 points in 53 games with Dauphin and Swan Valley last season, his 2nd full season in the MJHL.

The Kindersley Klippers also moved a 20-year-old goalie, sending third year tender Justin McDonald to the OCN Blizzard, likely paving the way for 19-year-old Brandon Stone to get the bulk of the work this season in Kindersley. As a rookie, McDonald saw some action in the 2011 Sherwood Conference Final, and went 4-23-1 on a rebuilding Klipper squad last season.

And the 2011 deadline day trade which saw Nipawin send Matthew Spafford to Dauphin is now complete. The Hawks received Jeremy Peeke at the time of the trade, and are now getting the rights to 1993 Defenseman Ian Humphreys. Humphreys is a grad of the successful Winnipeg Thrashers AAA Midget program, and spent last season in Winkler (MJHL), where he compiled (1g-14a) 15 points in 50 games.

Speaking of Spafford, he spent his first post-Junior A season with the U of S Huskies of the CIS, helping them to a Canada West Championship. Spafford registered 5 points, while dressing in 19 games as a Freshman.
