Sydney - Cape Breton Screaming Eagles General Manager and Head Coach Marc-André Dumont announced today changes to the scouting staff, as well as the formation of a new hockey committee.
Dumont named Jacques Carrière as the new Head Scout and Assistant General Manager. The Head Scout position was previously held by Richard Liboiron.
"Jacques brings a lot of experience, having worked with Chicoutimi, Victoriaville and most recently as Head Scout and Assistant General Manager in Val-d'Or,” said coach and GM Dumont. “He has passion for the game, strong knowledge of which skills players need to have today to perform, develop and progress into the next level. He also is a dedicated hard working scout and a team player".
Carrière, a father of 2 and police officer for the city of Ottawa, has also worked on Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence as head scout for Team Quebec U17 program.
"I look forward to this new challenge,” said Jacques Carrière. “I have worked with Jacques Blouin and Marc-André Dumont in the past and I'm excited to be reunited with them and to have the opportunity to contribute. The Screaming Eagles have always been an outstanding organization and I look forward to helping the team".
Carrière will join Jacques Blouin, Marc Bureau, and Marc-Andre Dumont to form a new hockey committee that will be responsible for establishing the direction of the team and making key hockey decisions.
Jacques Blouin was hired by the team as a consultant in December and has extensive experience, including a span as General Manager for the Shawinigan Cataractes, and as a scout for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Marc Bureau, has been employed by the team as a scout since 2011 and brings over 12 years of NHL experience along with vision, passion, and knowledge of the game.
Richard Liboiron, former Head Scout, has declined a new position offered by the Eagles. "We are disappointed but we respect his choice,” said Dumont. “I would like to thank him and all the departing scouts for the hard work they put in over the last number of years”.
Jacques Carrière will be forming his new scouting unit in the next few weeks, but it is already set that Jonathan Murphy, Sam Foster and Blair Joseph will remain on board.
