Everett extends Varady's contract

Press Release

Everett, WA -- Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Tuesday that the club has extended Associate Head Coach Jay Varady’s contract through the 2010-11 season. Varady, 31, will be entering his seventh season with the organization, which includes three seasons as the Associate Head Coach.

In Varady’s Silvertips tenure, the organization has posted a Western Conference Championship and three U.S. Division titles while making the playoffs in each of his six years. Prior to his time in Everett, he served as an Assistant Coach with the Pittsburgh Forge, winning the Junior A NAHL National Championship in 2003. The Cahokia, Illinois native also played three seasons of Division I NCAA hockey with Union College prior to an injury that relocated him to the bench, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2000-01 season.

Varady was recently named to USA Hockey’s coaching staff for the 2010 World Junior Championships. After participating as an assistant coach at the 2008 and 2009 Summer Evaluation Camps, Varady will operate as a Video Coordinator for the upcoming tournament, held from December 26 through January 5 in Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
