Team Blue defeats Team White

Press Release

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Jordan Schroeder (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) each had three points and Nick Leddy (Eden Prairie, Minn.) added a pair of goals, as Team Blue defeated Team White, 6-2, at the 2009 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp.

Goaltender Mike Lee (Roseau, Minn.) allowed only one goal in just over 30 minutes of action, as Team Blue jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to the victory.

Team Blue kicked off its first-period rally on the two-man advantage when Morin buried a centering feed from Schroeder past the glove side of Team White goalie Brandon Maxwell (Winter Park, Fla.).

Tyler Maxwell (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) gave Team Blue a 2-0 lead with a redirection of defenseman Matt Donovan’s (Edmond, Okla.) pass from the side of the net. Team Blue extended its lead to 3-0 just two minutes later when Morin outraced a pair of defensemen behind Team White’s net and set up Schroeder for another one-timer goal from the slot.

A pair of seeing-eye wrist shots from the point by Nick Leddy (Eden Prairie, Minn.) padded Team Blue’s lead even further to 5-0. Team White finally responded with its first goal of the game, as Mike Cichy (New Hartford, Conn.) collected a loose puck in the corner and buried a wrist shot high to the short side.

Second-period power-play goals by Team Blue’s Morin and Team White’s Danny Kristo (Eden Prairie, Minn.) closed out the scoring.

NOTES: Team White and Team Blue will meet twice more (August 8 – 9) before the 2009 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp roster is trimmed in preparation for games against Russia … The 2010 U.S. National Junior Team, to be selected later this year, will participate in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Regina and Saskatoon, Sask., Dec.
