Giants sign two

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Giants General Manager Scott Bonner announced the signing of the Giants top two picks in the 2009 Bantam Draft. Both Dalton Sward, 15 (Jan 10/94) of Abbotsford, B.C and Matthieu Bellerive, 14 (Dec 7/94) of North Vancouver B.C. have agreed to join the Giants organization. Sward was taken in the first round, 21st overall and Bellerive was selected 43rd overall in round two. Both players took part in the Giants just concluded rookie camp.

Bonner says “Both Dalton and Matt are important parts of the Giants future, it was nice to see them on the ice this week with our rookies and we look forward to watching them develop over the season”

Sward, a centre, played for the Abbotsford Hawks where he scored 68 goals and had 58 assists for 126 points. Bellerive a Right Winger played with POE-Kelowna registering 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points in 25 games.

Main camp begins today for the Giants. Sward will be among the players taking part. The players will be split into two groups for weekend action at the Ladner Leisure Centre, the ice times both days are 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. The two groups will take part in a scrimmage both nights at 7:00 p.m.
