WHL Training Camps open

Calgary, AB – The majority of WHL teams will open their doors for training camp today as preparations begin for the upcoming 2009-10 WHL season.
The Kelowna Rockets, the 2009 Ed Chynoweth Cup – WHL Champions, are among the Clubs who will open their doors for either rookie or main camp today at Prospera Place.

The 2009 WHL Exhibition season opens on Thursday, August 27 with the Prince Albert Raiders hosting their East Division rivals the Saskatoon Blades at the Art Hauser Centre. This season’s exhibition schedule also features three tournaments with the Edmonton Oil Kings tournament set for August 28 – 30, the Everett Silvertips tournament goes on the September 4 – 6 weekend and the Tri-City Americans will host their annual tournament over the September 10 – 13 weekend.

The Edmonton Oil Kings 3rd annual pre-season tournament begins Friday, August 28 and features six WHL Eastern Conference Clubs including the host Oil Kings, Medicine Hat Tigers, Moose Jaw Warriors, Red Deer Rebels, Regina Pats and Swift Current Broncos.

The Everett tournament opens Friday, September 4 and features the Prince George Cougars and all five U.S. Division Clubs, the Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs and Tri-City Americans.

The Tri-City Americans annual tournament features the host Americans, the Everett Silvertips, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Portland Winterhawks, and Spokane Chiefs starting on Thursday, September 10.

The 2009-10 WHL regular season will begin on Thursday, September 17th, with a special Opening Night game featuring the 2009 Ed Chynoweth Cup – WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets hosting their B.C. Division rivals the Vancouver Giants, for a banner raising evening at Prospera Place in Kelowna. The game will be broadcast LIVE on SHAW TV with the pre-game show starting at 7:00 pm (PT).
