Allen Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jake Allen of the Drummondville Voltigeurs is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 14. Allen compiled a perfect record of 3-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.30 and save percentage of .951.

Allen saved his best performance of the week for Saturday in a big game against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He made 25 saves in regulation time before making another three saves in overtime and then turned aside all five shooters to backstop the Voltigeurs to a 3-2 shootout win where he was named the game’s first star. Earlier in the week on Tuesday night in Shawinigan he made 26 saves in a 4-1 win over the Cataractes. He followed that up with a 24 save performance on Friday night in an 8-1 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

Allen, a 19-year-old from Fredericton, NB, is playing in his third QMJHL season. Since being acquired by the Voltigeurs in a January trade, Allen has produced a record of 8-3-0-0 with a 2.28 goals-against-average and a .910 save percentage. A member of Canada’s National Junior Team, Allen was selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues.

Also considered this week was WHL goaltender Andrew Hayes of the Brandon Wheat Kings who recorded wins in both of his starts including a 3-0 shutout victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night with 30 saves as first star of the game. In the OHL, Edward Pasquale of the Saginaw Spirit was considered after making an incredible 103 saves in two games including a 61 save performance on Saturday as first star of a 7-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires.
