Pistone Commits to Army

Press Release

The Tri-City Storm announced that forward Tyler Pistone has committed to attend the United States Military Academy and play hockey for the Army Black Knights beginning in the fall of 2010.

"West Point is the most prestigious Academy or University a person could get into, and I love the opportunity that I get to play hockey, as well as receive the best education in the United States," said Pistone. "It was an easy choice for me, knowing that I wanted to get the best education for the medical field and West Point will help me become a better person all around."

Pistone is an alternate captain for the Storm and has posted eight points (5g, 3a) in 40 games. It is the first USHL season for the 19-year-old from Nanaimo, British Columbia who is a U.S. citizen. His first point in the League was the game-winning goal in the 4-3 win over the Indiana Ice on October 10th. Two of his goals this season have been game-winners.

Army is a NCAA Division I college hockey program that competes in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA). Pistone will be the first USHL player at Army since former Des Moines Buccaneers forward Ken Rowe played two seasons for the Black Knights (2006-08)

"We are couldn't be happier for Pistone and the way he has played for the Storm this season," said Head Coach/General Manager Drew Schoneck. "Army is getting a great young man, who will do a tremendous job representing the U.S. Military as a student-athlete."

"This will be my last year of junior hockey and I want to go out with a bang," Pistone added. "My goal is to help this team get into the playoffs and help the remaining guys (for the Storm) get their college scholarships as well."
