Hynes and Allen win TELUS Player of the Week Awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, February 15, 2010 – Victoriaville Tigres forward Brandon Hynes and Drummondville Voltigeurs goaltender Jake Allen today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from February 8 to 14.

Hynes collected five goals and three assists while posting a +4 rating in three Tigres’ victories. Moreover, he registered a game-winner. The Norris Points (NL) native had a career-best five-point outing on Wednesday in a 13-3 rout of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Hynes has been red-hot since the beginning of February, recording thirteen points in only five games.

Nicolas Deschamps (Wildcats), Tomas Kubalik (Tigres) and Félix Lefrançois (Océanic) were also considered.

As for Allen, he helped the Voltigeurs register three wins with stellar performances in all three contests, closing out the week with a 1.30 goals-against-average and .951 save percentage. Allen played his best game on Saturday, pushing away 28 of 30 shots in the first three periods and in overtime as well as stopping all five skaters in the shootout to secure a 3-2 win over the Huskies. He was named the game’s first star.

Joël Chouinard (Tigres), Dominic Jalbert (Saguenéens) and Kevin Poulin (Tigres) were also in the running.
