MJHL Bantam draft approaching

Press Release

The junior hockey career for many Manitoba youngsters begins this Sunday in Portage where the annual MJHL bantam draft will be staged.

The draft begins Sunday morning at 9, with selections posted to the MJHL website. The No. 1 overall selection belongs to Neepawa Natives, with Virden, Selkirk, Winkler and Wayway rounding out the top five picks.

“This is a very exciting period for bantam-aged hockey players in the province,” said MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis. “Many of these picks will eventually become key members of their respective teams. The MJHL bantam draft is a key building tool for our teams. Hockey personnel from all our teams dedicate considerable resources in scouting and identifying players.”

In addition to the bantam draft, each of the 11 MJHL teams are allowed to protect up to two players from their region. That list appears in the link above.
