Sting Acquire Goaltender From Rangers

Press Release

Sarnia, On – General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced this afternoon the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club has acquired goaltender Brandon Maxwell from the Kitchener Rangers in return for forward Brandon Francisco.

Maxwell appeared in 46 games last season in handling the bulk of the work load for the Rangers and leading them to a 38-win season and a 3rd place finish in the Western Conference.

Beaulieu is excited to add the veteran goaltender to the lineup.

“Brandon is a top tier goaltender in our league. He is a veteran who has had two very successful seasons in the OHL and he immediately solidifies our goaltending situation. I like the mix of having a veteran goaltender like Brandon to work with a young 17 year old in Brandon Hope. I think this helps us both in the short term and down the road in the development of Brandon Hope as our goaltender of the future.”

In order to complete the trade Brandon Francisco was required to waive his no trade agreement in order to report to the Rangers.

“I would like to make it absolutely clear that at no time did Brandon request to be traded. As an organization we felt that a fresh start for Brandon would be in the best interests of his development as a player. I would like to thank Brandon for his two years with the Sting and wish him all the best in Kitchener.”
